Eb/D Bass Trumpet by Ed. Kruspe Erfurt Model “Bayreuth”

Another one of my prized instruments in the museum, this is the model Bayreuth bass trumpet from Ed. Kruspe in Erfurt Germany. I speculate this instrument dates to the early 1920s and was designed to be used in the music of Wagner. It is in Eb with a D change valve, with 4th valve in Bb or A depending on your setup. This gives you nearly all of the transpositions needed in Wagner’s Ring Cycle. It is a smaller orchestral model, especially when compared to other Eb bass trumpets of the period (see the Schopper Eb for example). Constructed of gold brass with a nickel bell garland. It takes a small shank trombone mouthpiece. An absolutely stunning piece of artwork and in remarkable condition.
