Egger Classical Tenor Trombone

This is a replica classical tenor trombone, built by Egger in Basel Switzerland. It is based on the original by Johann Joseph Schmeid of Pfaffendorf c1778. I use this instrument with historical performance ensembles for the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Handel, Haydn and other classical composers. It is in 440 and 430 pitch. Remarkable how much it looks like a sackbut but sounds and plays much more like a modern small bore trombone. Sackbuts were designed to play with voices, strings and cornetto… the classical trombones are much brighter and work better with french horns and trumpets from the period.
