Robert Schopper Leipzig Bass Trumpet in Eb

This is an Eb bass trumpet made by Robert Schopper in Leipzig, likely in the late 1890s or early 1900s. It has a date stamp of 1910 which is clearly an inventory stamp at an institution but I’m nearly certain the instrument is from pre-1910. It is in remarkably good condition and makes a lovely sound. This is a larger Eb and would have been used in the military or town brass bands of the day. Robert Schopper is a notable maker, being one of the two apprentices to J.C. Penzel, the famous brass maker from Leipzig who was the apprentice¬† to C.F. Sattler, the inventory of the German romantic trombone in the 1840s.
