Sell your instrument through my website!

I’m confident I can find your used instruments the best possible home. I take detailed photos of each instrument and write an accurate and honest description about every horn I represent on this website. Instruments are displayed in my showroom in my brick and mortar storefront and are available for testing. My shop is 24 hour security monitored and insured. My passion is brass instruments and I love finding them deserving new homes, this is why I started The Brass Ark. I welcome all quality brass instruments. Send me an email and let me know what you have in the closet or attic.

Consignment services are handled on a sliding scale:

  • – Items under $2500 at 18%
  • – Items over $2500 at 15%
  • – Items over $4000 at 10%

Consignment fee is calculated from the gross selling price of the item, sellers fees are deducted (i.e. paypal if applicable, credit card fees, extra shipping and any cleaning/repairs as needed) from the total net price to consignee.

Payments: I accept Cash, Checks, Bank Wires and Paypal. Credit card payments can be made through paypal. A non refundable paypal fee is added to all transactions. This paypal fee is around 3% for USA domestic transactions and 5% for international transactions and will be added to an invoice. If you’d like to pay with paypal, I will send you an invoice. Sales tax is applicable in California and is currently 10.25% out of state transactions do not have sales tax. Customs and duties for international transactions are the buyers responsibility. Please check with your local customs control to understand what duties may be due, if any.

Trial Periods: I offer a one week trial period. Custom and special orders are non refundable.

Refunds: Refunds are given in full with the exception of mouthpiece returns, new instruments, special ordered instruments and paypal transactions fees. Returned mouthpieces within one week of purchase will have a 15% restocking fee plus any applicable paypal fees. New instruments will have a 2.5% restocking fee. Custom orders and special orders for mouthpieces and instruments are non refundable. Shipping fees are not refundable.

I only deal in quality new, used, vintage or rare brass instruments. Instruments will be tuned up prior to sale, unless noted in a description or sold in as-is condition. That means, I will have slides rebuilt and aligned, chem cleaned, dents removed, etc. Rest assured you won’t get a crappy instrument from me.

I love giving advice to folks in search of a quality instrument. If you have a question about a specific horn, send me an email. I will offer whatever help I can. This is something I am very passionate about.

Buying an instrument sight unseen can be a scary process. I offer a one week trial period on instruments sold through my services. If the instrument is not for you, a refund will be issued, minus the shipping costs and any paypal fees if applicable. Return shipping costs are the buying party’s responsibility. Items must be returned in the same condition as sent, and the package must be insured for the full amount of the contents.

I entertain trade in offers on horns that are not in the inventory on consignment. If there’s something you’re interested in, send me an email and we can talk about it. I try to be as fair as possible on my trade in offers but please keep in mind that a trade offer will not yield as much net as it would with a consignment sale since I am taking your instrument on inventory.

Please don’t be offended if I pass on your instrument. I try to curate a specific inventory here that I think will sell, it does no good for you or me if your instrument sits here on the shelf for many years. I will always give you an honest estimate of how long it will take to sell but this is up to the whims of the marketplace.

I also maintain a wanted instrument list. If you are in search of a specific horn, send me an email, and I will add you to the list. I’ll be happy to contact you when and if the desired horn comes into my shop.

Tips on how to ship a trombone, or any brass instrument, in the mail and avoid damage:

In a case: Make sure there is bubble wrap inside the bell to keep the rim from making contact with the case, as the shipping company will throw the box. I also like to put wrap onto of the horn to keep it from moving side to side. You want it tight in the case. If you’re shipping in a gig bag, make sure to remove the slide and ship outside of the bag.

It’s best to ship without case, but a bit more wrapping is involved. Take a long piece of bubble wrap and cocoon the main body of the trombone. I usually wrap 2-3 times fully around. Then take another long piece and fold it in half, wrap the rim with this piece. Tape those two sections together. Lastly, bubble wrap inside the bell and seal with tape, I sometimes put an extra pad around the tuning slide too. If you are shipping the slide, it should get a single wrapping of bubble and go in some sort of cardboard sleeve for the slide(USPS postal tubes work great and are available for free at your post office)

Make sure the box is big enough. Lamp boxes from uhaul or any box store work best: 40x14x14 or similar

Fill it with packing peanuts. Then compress the peanuts to secure the case or wrapped parts. Top off the peanuts and seal the box. Nothing should be moving inside the box.

Please only ship to me via UPS or USPS. FedEx is always an issue delivering to my address. Signature required is not needed as my storefront is default for a signature, save the extra fee.

For packages: The Brass Ark is located at: 3542 Foothill Blvd. La Crescenta, CA 91214 and this is our shipping address.
