This is a recent collaboration between Cerveny/Amati and The Brass Ark. My dear friend Thomas Zsivkovits recently worked with Cerveny/Amati to build a signature oval baritone which has had fantastic success. On a recent visit to LA, we were discussing the need for a high quality 5 valve orchestral tenor tuba that is more affordable but still has all of the playability and flexibility needed for this specialized instrument and I wanted something handmade in the old style. He suggested a collaboration and connected the dots for me… and this beautiful instrument was born! This is the second one we’ve made. It has a gold brass bell and first branch, hand seamed and hammered tubing, 5 rotary valves with the 5th valve optional for flat half or whole step to allow for alternate fingerings as well as a main tuning slide trigger adjustment. This one has a large shank mouthpiece receiver. It is lacquered and includes a nice case and mouthpiece! More of these will be in the works in the future and I hope to be able to offer a fully nickel silver version as well someday.
