This is a very special and rare instrument made by the John Stratton company of New York, probably in the late 1860s or 1870s. It is an Eb contrabass saxhorn (upright French style) in nickel silver. It has 3 top action rotary valves. In remarkable condition for its age, this is a playable piece of artwork and probably should be in a prominent collection or museum of Civil War American brass instruments. The instrument is fully functional and does play surprisingly well for its age! The valves are a touch leaky as to be expected from 150+ year old instrument. This is a rare opportunity for a special type of buyer. Being an antique instrument, this is sold as is with no returns. Local pickup preferred but shipping is possible.
