This is a really special Shires that I put together from parts here at the shop. The centerpiece is an original Steve Shires spun 2RVET7T3 bell (unsoldered red brass, vintage elkhart, thinned flare T7, work hardened T3) which is seriously one of the best playing Shires bells I’ve ever had in the shop and it has a stunning original hand engraving… it makes an incredible sound! I mated it up with a newer Shires dual bore rotary (aka Ralph Sauer valve) along with a standard TW47 slide and a gold brass tenor tuning slide. The slide has some pitting on the bottom cork barrel, the valve is missing lacquer in places. Despite the cosmetics, I think the results are fantastic, a really unique trombone with just the right balance of materials and designs to bring out the best qualities of all of the parts.
