This is an unusual bass trombone. It has Shires dependent axial valves, a custom built Greenhoe Bach 50 slide, Shires C tuning slide and a rare transitional prototype bell. This bell, probably made around 2001-2002 is a vintage Conn style (stamped B2RVET7) and has a hybrid hand engraving. I asked Steve Shires about this bell and he said there was a short period between when Sherry had been doing the hand engraving on the bells and before they had the diamond engraver that become the normal standard for Shires bells. They were experimenting with different engravers and techniques and this is one of those bells. So not only is it an unusual Conn style bass bell but it also has this one off engraving. The engraving looks similar to the Sherry version but also has some aspects of the newer design, it’s also quite deep in places. The bell is raw brass and has a lovely patina. A neat bass trombone, the dependent valves are on the leakier side from use but are still functioning and are open and free blowing. Sold without case
